Alysha Chan

Alysha is a combined plan student at SEAS, having transferred from Scripps College, one of the Claremont Colleges in California. She is a proud Earth and Environmental Engineering major and hopes to someday save the world. Prior to coming to New York this fall, she lived in Southern California her entire life, but the move east has proved to be a very fulfilling, much needed change.
In her spare time, she enjoys being active by playing basketball (Go Lakers!), running, and participating in other sports. She is a huge boba and ice cream addict. Alysha also enjoys blogging and partaking in random adventures. One of her greatest passions in life is making videos with her best friends from home in their group, Kappa Kappa Chino.
Almost Complete Bio
A native of Arcadia, CA, Alysha Chan is a transfer student from Scripps College, where she studied Engineering and Hispanic Studies. She is now an Earth and Environmental Engineering major at Columbia’s Fu Foundation School ofEngineering and Applied Science. Alysha is AAA’s Publicity Chair and hopes to use her time on the board to combat the problematic view of Asian American women as exotic, desirable, and unattainable as well as the model minority myth.
Outside of AAA, Alysha spends her time on the SEAS 2010 Class Council as the Combined Plan/Transfer Student Representative and conducts research with a PhD student on soil wells in Bangladesh. At Scripps, Alysha was a part of the Asian American Students Union and on the planning committee for Weapons of Musical Dissent, a day-long concert featuring music and spoken word by people of color. Off-campus activities included activism/protests through the Bus Riders Union, LAX Hilton Boycott, KIWA, and others.
At her alma mater, Arcadia High School, Alysha was a member of the varsity basketball and cross country teams, the secretary of Spanish Club, and publicity commissioner of the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club. Alysha loves playing sports and filmmaking. Check her out at youtube.com/kappakappachino!
