Why AAA?
Growing up in a predominately white neighborhood and school in Colorado, I struggled with many issues of direct racism and problems of isolation. So, when arriving at Columbia the first organization I began to identify with was AAA. Unlike other APIA organizations on campus, I found that AAA empahsized a political and social identity of Asian Americans within the US, which was important for me especially since I did not necessarily identify as a Korean but as a Korean American. Moreover, rather than simply throwing social events or mixers it seemed that AAA held events that truly reflected the struggles and issues faced by the Asian American community at large.
Events (that I was heavily involved in or cared about):
All of them! In particular Asian American Women's workshops and Asian American Women Body Image Documentary.
Other Involvement on Campus:
Barnard Student Government Association Class Representative Asian Pacific American Awareness Month Secretary and Social Chair Korean Students Association Events Coordinator; Korean Students Association Culture Show Arts Chair
Positions
