Ihnseon

Ihnseon is the 2010-2011 AAA Chair. She is currently a Class of 2013 at Columbia College and as well as a student at Julliard.

IhnSeon is in the Class of 2013, Columbia College. Having grown up in three different areas of South Korea and several U.S. cities with sizeable Asian populations, she noticed the stereotypes associated with Asians that are not all positive. She believes that the cultural misunderstandings could be reduced if Asian-Americans stayed more in touch with the beauty of Asian traditions. By presenting art, food, and social etiquettes that stem from the deep roots of Asian traditions in more appealing yet practical ways, the perception of Asian culture would be improved and Asians in America would feel more comfortable displaying individuality. Though she recognizes the idealism in her belief, she will work for the long-term goal nonetheless. She has been studying the violin with Mr. Itzhak Perlman and Cathy Cho for 5 years, and will continue her musical studies through the Juilliard Exchange Program. While managing her artistic career, she was a member of National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society, a senior team member of the biology team, an RHS ambassador, and treasurer of French Club. She hopes to continue her volunteer work at the Sloan Kettering Memorial Cancer Center with students at Columbia. In addition to AAA, she is also concertmistress of the Columbia University Orchestra, a teacher for Musical Mentors (non-profit student teaching organization associated with public school students), and trying to refine her appreciation for traditional Asian music with Ho-Heup (Korean drum troupe at Columbia). When she is not studying or practicing, she likes to run in the mornings, eat anything with chocolate, and party.
