USCC
From AAA Wiki
The United Students of Color Council (USCC) is a multiracial student group at Columbia University. Former AAA members sit on the USCC board.
Overview & Mission Statement
USCC aims to act as a switchboard for students of color and student of color groups on campus. We advocate and program to: build community, foster collaboration, raise consciousness, create safe spaces and mobilize and empower students of color and student of color groups on campus.
USCC asserts that the empowerment and expression of students of color on campus are central to the well-being of the entire university community. In addition, we recognize the importance of working with and learning from the larger community on and off-campus.
The heart of USCC is its general body. The general body is comprised of all interested students of color, student of color groups and allies. The executive board takes its cue from the general body and consists of a webmaster, communications chair, campus liaison, public relations co-chairs, funding co-chairs, events co-chairs, political co-chairs and executive co-chairs. Together, we:
• make the political accessible
• organize Making the Connection: Building a Unified Community of Color (MCBUCC) by holding events that link the community of color
• encourage coalition building
• hold general body meetings
• co-sponsor intergroup events
• reach out to all students of color, regardless of their participation in student groups
• respond to events both on and off-campus by creating a space for students of color and their allies to process and dialogue as a community
• maintain contact with administration
• maintain the USCC website and continually update a calendar that highlights events within the community of color
• send weekly newsletters to the general body
